Definition
A consignor is either an individual or an organization that hands over their goods to another party known as the consignee. The ultimate purpose of this transfer is to sell the goods, typically in different markets or overseas. This agreement allows the consignor to benefit from wider market access without directly managing the sales operations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Shipping and Logistics: The consignor is responsible for the initial stages of the supply chain, including the packaging and shipping of goods to the consignee.
- Inventory Ownership: Until the goods are sold by the consignee, the consignor retains ownership. This implies that risks associated with inventory damage or loss typically remain with the consignor.
- Sales Terms and Conditions: The consignor and consignee usually enter into an agreement that outlines terms of sale, price points, and the commission to be earned by the consignee.

You still own these masterpieces, and only when the curtain falls with applauding audiences do your plays (now products) truly sell, bringing you fame and fortune—whilst your trustee theaters (consignees) take a bow (and a cut!).
